Martin Bates running along the Beyond the Lune 16k race

Martin Bates ran the Beyond The Lune 16k trail race on Saturday morning and he completed the figure-of-eight course from the east of Kirby Lonsdale in 16th out of 27 in 2:00:20. It was a 10-mile tour of Brownthwaite Pike the Bullpot and across the Devils Bridge to take n the banks of the Lune.

The 20 Barriers Race on Tuesday evening was the next fixture in the Wesham Trail and Fell running championship, a 6-mile loop with 600ft of climb along the Lancaster canal and up through the fields. Chris Banks was the first Wesham finisher in 8th place with a time of 37:26.  Dan Hounslea was 14th in 40:06 with Steve Myerscough close on his tail in 15th place with a time of 40:10 to come in 2nd M50. Ian Nichols Hogg was the fourth Wesham finisher in 25th place in 42:12. Mick Edge ran well for 36th place and 2nd M60 in 45:08 with John Naylor 45th and 6th M40 in 47:45. Carmel Sullivan came in 7th woman and 1st W55 in 48:28 in 48th place overall and Kay Twist was 11th woman and 2nd W50 in 51:40 placing 57th overall. The day had remained dry after early rain although it was cloudy and breezy.

It was fast and furious with the Wesham Fell and Trail Runing championships as there was another race on Friday evening, the first of a new series of the Baxendale Trail Race from Baxenden south of Accrington, a four-and-a-half mile run down the old Accrington to Bury railway line, with a fair incline of around 1 in 60 giving quite a climb of the return leg. It was a small field of runners for this inaugural race, but it was a delightful run along the heavily wooded track. Dan Hounslea finished 3rd in 20:26 with Steve Myerscough 4th and 1st M50 in 21:08. Ian Nichols Hogg came in 7th in 22:32 and Kay Twist placed 2nd woman and 1st W50 in 26:46, 14th overall. John Collier was another age category winner in 15th place in 27:10 for 1st M70. James Danson finished 19th and 3rd M55 in 29:08. It was a pleasant warm evening and a very nice event based in the Dog and Partridge.

Emma Brook was very pleased with her run in the iconic Bridges of the Tyne 5-mile race, where she finished 20th W40, 130th female, and 368th overall in 45:47 (45:26 chip time). She two 2 minutes off her previous best time for this course.

Finlay McCalman completed the Munich Half Marathon in the English Garden in the centre of the city in 1:58:43.

There were 28 Wesham members at nine parkruns on Saturday morning for a 5km awakener to their weekends. At the South Manchester parkrun in Platt Fields Tracey Hulme ran a good 24:40 for a W60 age graded performance of 78.65% of world record for her age. Nigel Shepherd was in the Preston run in Avenham and Miller parks and he clocked 21:36 for an M65 age graded 78.40%. Vicky Gore finished in 25:02 for a W45 65.38% and Paul Carter ran 31:52 for M50 47.80%. On holiday in the Isle of Wight Mike and Helen Eyre attended the Medina I.O.W. run in Appley Park in East Ryde to clock 25:12 and 31:53 for M60 64.75% and W60 60.01%. At the Riverside run in Chester-Le-Street Emma Brook recorded 27:06 for W40 56.77% and in Birkenhead Park John Naylor returned 22:34 for an M40 graded 61.89%. On home ground in Lytham Hall Ian Nichols Hogg clocked the 8th fastest time of the morning with 21:47 for an age graded 59.68%. Jonathan Lawson ran 23:10 for an M55 grade of 66.91% with Andy Moore on 27:11 for M60 60.02%. Alona Versinina 27:38 for W35 54.46%. Agness Woods clocked 28:09 and W55 65.19% with Jo McCaffery coming in with 28:45 for W45 55.77%. Anne Berry ran 31:47 and W60 61.93% with Emma Davies 37:07 for 39.87%. Michelle Pitt clocked 39:30 with her W40 39.54%; Martin Allison ran 42:32 for M40 32.09%; Phil Leaver was on good form for 44:43 and an M70 graded 39.43% with Sue Rigby running 45:28 for W50 36.88% with Carl Groome just behind in 45:30 for M55 33.77%. Up the rad in Stanley Park in Blackpool Chris Haines returned 22:16 for an M35 60.85%, Rob Wallace ran 22:26 for 57.80% and Finlay McCalman clocked 26:48 for M60 59.83%. At the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun George Kennedy fleet-footed 23:48 for M65 71.15% with Alan Hudson in at 25:11 for M70 73.99% and Alex Rowe on a walk-run 36:20 to give an M65 graded 47.02%. Another new run for Steven Gore at the Millfield parkrun in Easingwold near York gave him a time of 24:03 for an M40 graded 58.07%.
