Jen Salt finishing the Beetham Sports Fell race after the big climb up the Fairy Steps

It was a quieter week for athletics in the Fylde region as the holiday season kicked off but there were still plenty of Wesham members out running and racing.

Paul Lancashire completed the Lakeland 50 over the weekend with a time of 12:04:03 having started out at 11:37 on Saturday morning and finishing in the last light at 20 to midnight/. Mick Edge competed in the Salford Quays Triathlon in a week of activity at the site. In good weather conditions he completed the 800m swim in 12:21 as first M60 having had clear water to make his own pace unobstructed. Then with 300m to run to transition he had had to borrow a bike as his own one was again disqualified due to illegal disc wheel and aerobars, so he pedalled 40 mins with a group of three with drafting allowed, so he placed 3rd after the 13.5 miles at 20mph and 5 laps. Into the run he was tired, and it was warm but he finished in 25:13 for the 3.5 miles to give him an overall finish time of 1:22:06, 2nd M60 having neaten all the M50s as well, placing 20th overall.
