Wesham finished 2nd team again at the fifth round of the Inter Club series on Wednesday evening held in Astley Park by Chorley Harriers. The Vets were third team, a great result, with the Ladies 6th and Lady Vets 4th. The full results and write-up will be in next week’s report.

Martin Bates ran the Summer Mile staged by Ramsbottom Running Club in Nuttall Park on Tuesday evening over the classic 1609 metres on a flat out-and-back course set off in waves based on their estimated finish time.

There were 4 Wesham members in the next race in the Trail and Fell Running Championship in the Hopwood Trot race on Wednesday evening. Alek Walker finished 6th M40 and 22nd in 35:36 for the 5.5 miles around the Hopwood College grounds. John Collier finished 94th and 1st M70 in 44:50 with James Danson 125th and 16th M55 in 48:19. Martin Bates was 133rd and 7th M65 in 48:50 for a good evening’s running and his second in three days.

The City of Preston staged a 5- and 10-mile road race on Sunday from Walmer Bridge Village Hall and there was a good team from Wesham taking part. Adam Wilding stormed the 5-miler to win in 27:24 with Tom Bamber 3rd in 28:45 and Dan Bolton 4th in 29:50 to win the men’s team. Nigel Shepherd finished 20th in 35:04, 1st Over-60 male. George Kennedy finished 33rd in 41:12 to take 5th M60; Bev Wilding was 10th woman and 2nd W60 in 43:09 placing 38th overall. Aggie Woods came in 12th woman and 4th Over-50 in 44:41, 43rd overall, with Dawn Biggs 50th and 7th Over-50 in 47:49 to finish 16th woman. Sue Coulthurst ran the accompanying half marathon, coming 6th woman and 1st Over-50 in 31st overall in 1:15:05.

Finlay McCalman finished 116th in the Lowther Lakeland Fell & Trail Run from the Lowther Castle in 2:33:34, 13th M60. Bradley Flatt ran the Windmill Half Marathon from the Lytham Windmill on the Green, finishing 36th overall in 1:39:42. In the Preston Runfest Marathon at the weekend from Avenham Park John Naylor was pace-making to finish 23rd in 05:39:46.

There were 21 Wesham members in 9 parkrun venues on Saturday morning at 9am for their 5km timed runs. In the Preston parkrun in Avenham Park David Taylor was 9th fastest in 19:37 for an M35 age graded performance of 68.05%. Vicky Gore was 6th fastest woman in 24:55 for a W45 age graded 65.69% with Steven Gore on 24:56 for M40 56.02%. Andy Moore finished 28:22 for M60 57.52%.  In the Sheffield run in Endcliffe park Mike Eyre ran 24:08 for M60 67.61% and Helen Eyre clocked 31:33 and W60 60.64%. Martin Bates was in Aireville Park for the Skipton run and he notched up 26:10 for an M65 grade of 65.29% in his first run there. Liz Sharrocks was in the West Country and ran the Bodmin run in the park around Lanhydrock House for a nicely rounded time of 35:00 for W60 57.90%. In Witton Park in Blackburn Steve Myerscough ran the challenging 3.1 miles in 23:58 for an M50 age graded 61.54% in his first visit, but the most Wesham runners were found in Stanley Park in Blackpool with the Lytham Hall event closed for two weeks. Chris Haines ran the 9th fastest time of the day with 19:38 for M35 69.02% with Lee Barlow clocking in an M50 68.31% with his time of 21:56. Jonathan Lawson recorded 22:36 for M55 68.58%; John Naylor was on 22:57 for M40 60.86%; and Rob Wallace clocked 24:25 for an SM30 graded 53.11%. Kerry Eccles ran 33:38 for W60 58.52%; and Philip Leaver walk/jogged 42:21 for M70 42.15%. Up the road on Fleetwood Promenade parkrun Ian Nichols Hogg ran well for 7th fastest place in a time of 20:26 for his age graded performance of 63.62% with George Kennedy was on 23:07 for M65 73.25%. Alex Rowe walked 39:44 for M65 42.99%. in the Rothay Park run inn Ambleside Stephen Twist clocked 26:18 for M55 59.44% and fellow M55 James Danson ran the Worden parkrun in Leyland in 27:18 for M55 58.24%.
