There was a good turnout from Wesham in the Mawdesley Trail 10k in Mawdesley Trail 10k Run from Ormskirk in the latest round of the Wesham Trail and Fell Running Championship. Over 6.2 miles of multi-terrain Alek Walker finished 6th and 3rd M40 in 41:03. Dan Hounslea was 17th in 43:41 with Steve Myerscough 30th and 6th M50 in 45:29. Ian Nichols Hogg was 34th in 46:01 and Finlay McCalman finished 79th in 53:41, 9th M60. Kirsty Holland was 93rd woman supporting Debbie Myerscough, with the pair coming in with 1:37:14 and 1:37:19 for 184th and 185th places.
Carmel Sullivan was first W50 and 10th woman in the latest Salford Quays Media City 5k race, finishing 40th overall in 23:49. Martin Bates was 3rd M65 and 69th overall in 26:48. Mick Edge, not entered as Wesham this time, finished 26th and 1st M60 in 21:41.
John Naylor ran the Bridgeathon from Guys Canalside Tavern as it’s now called in Bilsborrow, finishing in 4:56:40 in 9th place, in this event incorporating the half marathon and 10k distances as well. The full course went north from Guys to Garstang and back, and then south to Salwick and back for the full marathon distance all along the canal towpath.
Martin Bates ran the Cartmell Trail Races Trail Run 10k in 1:17:07 to come in 61st and 11th Over-60. Jen Salt was in the Trail Run 18k and she finished 131st in 2:11:41, 24th Over-40 woman with Sharon Cooper 180th in 2:22:25 and 22nd Over-50 woman.
Paul Carter completed the third Tower to Castle Ultra 30 from the Blackpool Comedy Carpet to Lancaster along the coastal way in 6:55:36 to come in 121st, an incredible achievement. The winner was a lady, Mary Heald, in 4:14:27, with three females in the Top 10. Second placed Alan Lucker of Bowland Fell Runners completed the course in 4:29:49.
There were no Wesham first claim members in any of the Morecambe 10k, Half Marathon or marathon but John Bertenshaw clocked 1:47:08 in the Half in his bid for a Good For Age entry in next year’s London Marathon, to finish 43rd and 1st M65.
There were 34 Wesham members taking part in 13 different parkrun venues on Saturday morning for a 5km timed run. Mike and Helen Eyre ran the Woodhouse Moor parkrun in Leeds in 23:57 and 30:25 respectively while at Woodbank parkrun in Stockport David Taylor ran the second fastest time of the day there in 18:40. Vicky Gore was 3rd fastest woman in 25:24 with Steven Gore in 25:25. Tracey Hulme ran the South Manchester in Platt Fields in 24:21. Nigel Shepherd was at his regular Preston run n Avenham Park to clock 21:19 and Emma Brook completed the Riverside parkrun in Chester-Le-Street in 28:53. Alona Versinina was in Penrith for the run at the Frenchwood Sport Centre opposite Brougham Castle to run 27:05. In Croxteth Hall in Liverpool Emma Wright clocked 27:46, but the biggest Wesham contingent this week was at the Lytham Hall parkrun. Alek Walker was third fastest of the day with 19:55 and Carl Groome 14th in 21:02. Jonathan Lawson ran 22:53; Ian Nichols Hogg 24:25; Andy Moore clocked 27:45; Carly Edgar 29:08 for 21st female with Alan Edgar coming in at 29:08. Julie Rooney ran 36:28 with Mary Lois Cortes returning 37:15. Michelle Pitt ran 40:23 and Sue Rigby 56:06. Up the road at the Blackpool parkrun Lee Barlow was 7th fastest in 20:44 and Rob Wallace was in at 24:04. Ryan Azzopardi recorded 27:34 with Jo McCaffery finishing in 30:32, Martin Allison running 31:34 and Kim McGuire 34:17. In the Fleetwood Promenade run George Kennedy clocked 23:24 with Des Cleary rejoining Wesham with 27:39. On another promenade this one in Morecambe Daniel Bolton had the second fastest time of the day with 16:45 while Tracy Clare ran 38:47 and Elliot Costello 38:48. At the Tawd Valley run in Skelmersdale Steve Myerscough clocked the 9th fastest run with 22:13 and John Naylor warmed up for his weekend marathon with a 5km at the Rothay Park parkrun in Ambleside to run 24:06.
