The Inter-Club series concluded on Wednesday this week in Worden Park in Leyland hosted by Red Rose over a measured 4-mile course. Wesham had a good team with 11 ladies and 30 men running. Adam Wilding finished 4th with a great run over the circuit in 22:03. The Wesham team had good packing with Dan Bolton 13th in 22:59, Tom Bamber 14th in 23:02, Mark Belfield 15th in 23:11, and David Taylor 20th with 23:53. Jamie Houghton was then 22nd in 24:16 with Chris Haines 29th in 24:39. Steve Myerscough finished 37th in 24:51, Alex Walker was 40th with 24:58, and Will Parkinson closed in the team in 58th place with a time of 25:56. For the Wesham ladies Sue Coulthurst was 16th in 28:35, in 102nd place overall. Becky Ingham had a great run to finish 27th in 30:32, 139th overall. Emma Lund was 32nd with 31:02, 145th overall, Bev Wilding 40th in 32:52, in 173rd place, and Lisa Minns was 51st in 34:15, 197th with Kirsty Holland 61st and 215th in 35:48. Overall the Wesham team finished 2nd, another good results for the season, with the Ladies 6th team. The Veterans were third team with Tom Bamber 3rd, Mark Belfield 4th, Steve Myerscough 16th, Alek Walker 18th, Lee Barlow 33rd in 26:09 (63rd overall), and Dan Eyre 36th with 26:42, 71st overall. The Lady Vets team were 5th, with Sue Coulthurst 4th, Emma Lund 14th, Bev Wilding 21st, Lisa Minns 30th, 197th overall, and Dawn Biggs 47th and 71st woman, 232nd overall in 37:06. The Vet-50s were 3rd team with Myerscough 5th, Barlow 12th, Nigel Shepherd 13th in 27:37, 84th overall, and Carl Groome 14th in 27:52, 7th overall. The Vet-60s team were also 3rd with Shepherd 4th, Mick Edge 7th in 28:49, 105th overall, and George Kennedy 14th with 31:09, 147th overall. Over the season, Wesham finished 2nd team, having come second in 6 of the 7 events, just 8 points behind Preston. The Ladies were 5th team with the Veterans 3rd, the Lady Vets 4th, the Vet-50s 3rd and the Vet-60s in 4th place.
Chris Haines finished 777th in 1:25:56 in this year’s Great North Run, with a 19:47 5k and 39:57 for 10k. Natalie Mulrooney was 6927th, 926th woman in 1:46:27 running with Jamie Houghton in a gallant gesture who officially was 6933rd. The pair clocked 25:08 for the first 5k and 50:32 for 10k. Olivia Cooper finished 21493rd in 2:10:17, 5851st woman, with 32:07 for 5k and 64:54 for 10k.
Becky Ingham ran the new Crazy Cow 10k Trail race from the Great Eccleston Show Ground across the fields alongside the River Wyre. She crossed the finish line 19th and 5th female in 54:54, with a chip time of 54:51 having had a good start. The race was won in 42:09 with the first woman 5th overall in 46:53. There were 92 runners in this revised race. Ian Nichols Hogg won the inaugural Canicross 10k at the Great Eccleston Show on Saturday, running in his English Springer Spaniel Teko to complete the 3-lap circuit on the banks of the River Wyre in 50:28.
Finlay McCalman completed the Budapest Half Marathon in 1:56:03 for 1683rd place and 33rd M60, in his bid to run an international half marathon every month. His gun time in the race was 1 hour 59 minutes 36 seconds. Alek Walker ran the Garstang Half Marathon in 1:31:36 on the hilly course for 13th place and 3rd M40. Chris Banks ran in the Wigan 10k to clock 37:00 for 29th place
Martin Bates ran the Derwentwater Trail 10k Race from the sports centre in Keswick up around the flank of Lonsdale Fell and back, finishing 40th and 4th M60 in 1:13:04. He had run the Keswick parkrun earlier that morning. Jen Salt was in the Trail Challenge 15k and she finished 187th 47th woman 19th female Over-40 in a time of 2:06:21.
George Kennedy ran the Yarrow Valley River Splash 10k, a multi-terrain run though the woods with a river crossing. He finished 81st in 1:11:41 (chip time 1:11:37) for 4th M65. There were 153 runners in this event that in past years has attracted several Wesham runners.
