
Wesham had an excellent turnout of 85 members at the opening match of this year’s David Wood Inter Club Series hosted by the Blackpool club in Stanley Park on Wednesday evening. Won by ex-Wesham member Rob Danson, now with Preston, Wesham’s team were headed by dam Wilding in 4th place, Tom Bamber 7th, Joshua Smith 9th, Dan Bolton 13th and Ethan McEvoy 16th to take the club to 2nd place. It was a balmy spring evening with a stiff breeze but clement, the full results will be reported next week.
Adam Wilding won the Mothers’ Day 10k on Saturday from the George & Dragon in Lancaster, finishing nearly 2 minutes clear with a new personal best time of 32:59, just dipping under the 33-minute mark for the first time. Ian Nicholls Hogg also ran a personal best time of 41:16 for 20th place. Kat Fawcett was 20th woman and 3rd W40 in 57:57, 64th overall, another best time, and Alistair Morris was 78th in 1:03:16, 3rd M60. Mary Cortes was 37th woman in 1:11:26, 85th overall. Interestingly the race was topped and tailed by a Wilding, no relation to each other.
The Coniston 14 is now in its 43rd year on its iconic and scenic route around Coniston Water, a challenging undulating route along country roads largely along the lake shore. Lee Barlow finished 183rd in 1:43:56, 25th M50, and Andrew Wilkinson was 710th in 2:09:02, 41st M55. There were 1228 runners in this very popular event.
Lisa Minns completed the Trail 10k in the Grasmere Duathlon & Trail Races, finishing 72nd woman and 3rd W60 in 1:06:50, 194th overall.
Peter Cooke ran the new St Pats 5k in Denedin in Florida with his brother last week. Sponsored by the HOB Brewing company, Peter clocked 33:33 for 93rd place with his brother coming in 130th in 37:58.
Martin Bates ran the Littleborough 5km from the Amateur Boxing Club, finishing 129th in 30:54, recorded as 10th Over-60, not taking account of his M65 status..
It was a bumper week for Wesham at a Saturday morning parkrun with 37 members at 12 events around the country. Tracey Hulme ran the South Manchester parkrun in Platt Fields in a time of 24:21 while Emma Brook was at her home run in Chester-Le-Street at Riverside on the Wear to clock 27:26 and John Naylor was at the Penrith run at Brougham castle where he finished with 24:07. Alice Deacon completed the Penrhyn parkrun near Bangor in North Wales in 25:12 and Ryan Azzopardi was at the Stretford parkrun in Longford Park to record 23:42. In Avenham and Miller parks in Preston Dan Bolton came in with the 4th fastest time of the morning with 17:23 followed by Tom Crabtree with 18:42, Jamie Houghton 19:15,Steve Myerscough 20:17, Nigel Shepherd 22:14 and Vicky Gore 25:22. There were seven Wesham members at the Lytham Hall parkrun where Jonny Heathcote was 5th fastest in 19:30 and Bradley Flatt 9th with 20:09. Andrew Taylor ran 21:12, Alan Edgar was on 24:17, Mark Holton 25:04, Carly Edgar 27:50, and Phil Leaver 57:47. Four members were in Stanley Park for the Blackpool run, David Taylor was 2nd fastest in 17:48; Jonathan Lawson clocked 22:18, Des Cleary 23:55 and Peter Cooke 33:24 after his North America outing. Alona Versinina ran the Northwich parkrun in 33:16, and there were 11 members on Fleetwood Promenade. Carl Groome was 6th fastest in 19:54, Steve Abbott 10th with 20:31, Jordan Doddemeade 11th on 20:53 and Neil Gregson 15th with 21:38. George Kennedy clocked 24:31, Andy Moore 26:14, Sally Deacon ran 29:19, Elliot Costello and Tracy Clare together with 32:27, Sue Rigby returned 32:57 and Alex Rowe walked 44:49. In the Somerdale Pavilion parkrun Brian Weatherington ran 27:49 and in North Wales in the Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields parkrun Mike Eyre returned 22:46 and Helen Eyre ran 30:39.
